In her early twenties, Stephanie embarked on her formal studies in Interior Design at UNSW Art & Design, where she graduated with Honours. Alongside her final years of study, she worked in visual merchandising and managed leading homewares stores, further honing her skills in styling, spatial planning, and understanding how people interact with interiors on a day-to-day level.
After gaining valuable experience across the design industry, Stephanie felt drawn to building more personal, collaborative relationships with her clients. This vision became the foundation of Laidbacklee Design — a studio created not only as a platform for her own work but also as a space for like-minded designers to connect, and for clients who share a love for refined, laidback aesthetics to find a home.
With over 10 years in the industry and more than six years as a business owner and founder, Stephanie now partners with some of the globe’s leading design brands and has launched her own range of curated pieces, designed in-house, which form part of the shoppable offering at her studio. Ever evolving, she continues to push boundaries and seek new ways to bring creativity and authenticity into every project.
The Founder
Stephanie Ferrara’s path in interior design weaves through the worlds of commercial, furniture, and residential design — but the story begins much earlier.
As a child, she would spend hours arranging and re-arranging her bedroom, endlessly experimenting with layouts and details until the space felt just right. Frequent weekend trips with her mother to Sydney’s flea markets and treasure troves only deepened her eye for design, teaching her how to blend furniture and decor from different eras into a cohesive whole.
Today, with a passion for creating spaces that balance beauty and function, Stephanie Ferrara is recognised as a distinguished interior designer celebrated for her distinctive and innovative approach.

Laidback Lee Design is a high-end residential and commercial studio based in Sydney. Our studio is founded by Stephanie Ferrara, an interior designer who lives and breathes everything design following extensive experience both nationally and internationally. Made up of a team of likeminded and passionate creatives, Laidback Lee Design is a studio that focuses on reinventing space into something beautiful, dynamic, and polished.
Our signature laidback and sophisticated style has allowed us to create in a way that our clients are able to easily live in and enjoy.
